
The Oyo State House of Assembly has directed its Standing Committee on Tertiary Institutions to liase with the Management of Higher Schools across the State and deliberate on the measures to engage in adopting online studies in the Institutions.
The directive was issued following a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Oyo East and West State Contituency in the State Assembly, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, during Thursday plenary.
Presenting the motion, titled ” Need for more intensified efforts to Institutionalise Education Technology or Online Education system by the Management of all State owned Tertiary institutions in the State to Expand access to Education and Increase Internally Generated Revenue , Hon. Olorunpoto noted that this new era of digital transformation calls for Technological based educational system inorder to enhance effective and dynamic learning environment that prepare students for success in the twenty – first Century.
“The Online learning platform and virtual classroom empower learners for the future and provides personalised experience that cater for individual needs and learning styles. It has become pronounced in the modern world, especially in educational institutions due to rising needs and emergence of some health challenges experience in the recent past” the lawmaker added.
Hon. Olorunpoto stressed that the introduction of online courses or programmes by some institutions in Nigeria has helped to increase their Students ‘ database and create more access to Education degrees, masters and doctorate programmes especially for working adults.
He stressed further that the adoption of Online Educational system by the State owned Tertiary Institutions can also pave the way for increment in Internally Generated Revenue and bring rapid developments to the State.
The House has however urged the Executive Arm of Government to implore the Heads and Management of all State owned Tertiary Institutions in Oyo State to create enabling environment and capacity building on technology driven for their workforce in order to bridge the personnel gaps in technology Education system initiatives.
Meanwhile, the bills seeking for the establishment of Tertiary Education Commission, and Abiola Ajimobi First Technical University, Ibadan passed through the first reading stage at Thursday plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.
The House has adjourned its Plenary sitting till Tuesday 12th March , 2024.
