Gunmen kill Anambra YPP ward chairman ahead of Reps rerun election

Unknown gunmen suspected to be political thugs have killed a ward chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Chief Joe Mohel, in Anambra State.

The ward chairman of Nanka Ward 1 in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State was shot dead on Saturday evening, November 11, 2023, shortly after a meeting between members of the community and the member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, Chinwe Nnabuife.

The meeting was reportedly in respect to a recent Appeal Court ruling that ordered a re-run election between Nnabuife and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Orumba North and South Federal Constituency in the 2023 general election, Okwudili Ezenwankwo.

The meeting was said to have been organised by the deceased for the House of Representatives member, Nnabuife, and members of the constituency.
