The Nigerian Super Eagles have been dealt a bitter blow to their chances against Sierra Leone in the upcoming 2022 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers as striker, Emmanuel Dennis has been ruled out of the clash.

According to reports, the 23-year-old Belgium-based striker sustained the injury during a training session with the Super Eagles at their camp in Benin, Edo state. Nigeria trained on Saturday evening and Sunday before leaving for Sierra Leone on Monday, November 16.

The Super Eagles will rue their last fixture against Sierra Leone after failing to see the match off despite a 4-0 cushion as the Leone Stars roared back with a highly impressive comeback to share the spoils in Benin.

The latest injury to Gernot Rohr’s side means the team’s attack has been significantly affected after Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen dislocated his shoulder in the first leg of the fixture.

The German tactician is now left with Kelechi Iheanacho, Paul Onuachu, and Ahmed Musa as his only striking options to choose from ahead of the fixture on Tuesday November 17, 2020 in Freetown.

Despite the disappointing result last time out, the Super Eagles still top Group L which features Benin, Sierra Leone, and Lesotho in second, third, and fourth places respectively.
