An unfortunate incident has rocked Palmas, a fourth division side in Brazil after the club president died in a plane crash alongside four other players. The club were aboard a plane en-route a cup tie before five of them met their death as the aircraft crashed on take-off.
According to Mail Online, the small plane was transporting the group to a Brazilian Cup tie on Sunday, January 24, 2021.
In a statement released by Palmas, the club confirmed that their president, Lucas Keira and four other players named Guilherme Noe, Marcus Molinari, Lucas Praxedes, and Ranule, all lost their lives in the tragic crash. They are not the only ones to have died as the pilot, identified simply as Wagner didn’t make it as well.
“The plane on which Lucas was with Commander Wagner and athletes Lucas Praxedes, Guilherme Noé, Ranule and Marcus Molinari, took off and crashed at the end of the runway of the Tocantins Association of Aviation. “We regret to inform you that there are no survivors. In this moment of pain and dismay, the club asks for prayers for the relatives to whom it will provide the necessary support, and emphasises that in due time it will speak again,” the club announced on Instagram.

The four players who are aged between 23 and 27 only joined the Brazilian side in 2021. You will recall this is not the first time such incident will happen in Brazil after Chapecoense lost 19 squad members to a fatal plane crash in November 2016.
Several condolences and tributes have poured in. May the soul of the departed rest in peace.
