Nigerians Shocked as Okocha Left out of Greatest Footballers in History, Ronaldo Out of Top 3


Nigerians have been left surprised after Super Eagles legend, Austin Jay Jay Okocha was left out of the 50 Greatest Footballers of all-time in a recent list compiled by UK sports outlet, FourFourTwo.

The former number 10 was the favourite of many fans after playing across different countries. Despite representing clubs in Germany, Turkey, France, and England and playing some of the best football ever seen, Okocha was still omitted from the list of the greatest footballers the game has ever seen.

Although hampered by injuries, the Frankfurt and Bolton icon was loved by many for his many displays on the field of play. Several players have told of how he was their icon. German playmaker, Mesut Ozil, who recently had his contract terminated by Arsenal, is one of the many players to have revealed how important Okocha was. In a Q&A session on Twitter, Ozil revealed he had Okocha’s shirt while growing up.

The omission of Okocha is not the only surprise as Juventus star, Cristiano Ronaldo is not regarded as one of the top three greatest footballers in history. However, according to the sports outlet, Argentine footballer, Lionel Messi, is worthy of a second-place on the list.
