Nigeria Drops in Latest FIFA Ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped three places from 32nd to 35th in the latest FIFA ranking and are now number 4 in Africa.

The latest ranking does not come as a surprise after the Eagles’ poor showing against Sierra Leone in their 2021 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers where they squandered a four-goal lead to draw 4-4 to the Leone Stars.

After squandering a four-goal advantage in Benin, Nigeria settled for a goalless draw in the reverse fixture in Freetown and have paid the price with another drop in the latest FIFA ranking.

The ranking which was published on FIFA’s site shows the Teranga Lions of Senegal have improved from last month’s ranking by a position as they are Africa’s highest ranked team on 20th position.

Tunisia are the 26th best team in the world while reigning African champions, Algeria, dropped one place to be the 31st ranked team.

The three African countries top Nigeria in Africa as Senegal, Tunisia, and Algeria all occupy the first, second, and third spots in the continent.

In terms of global ranking, the first five teams in the world are unchanged as Belgium, France, Brazil, England, and Portugal retained their first, second, third, fourth, and fifth places respectively.

Nigeria will hope for improvement in their next FIFA ranking which will be published on 10th December, 2020.
