Manchester United Confirm Shirt Numbers for New Signings as Cavani Handed Iconic No. 7 Shirt


Following the end of the International transfer window, English giants, Manchester United have confirmed the shirt numbers of their latest signings, handing Uruguayan striker, Edinson Cavani the iconic No.7 shirt.

The Old Trafford side made a total of 5 transfers during the transfer window with 4 of those coming on deadline day.

Midfielder, Donny Van De Beek joined from Eredivisie side, Ajax mid-summer while Alex Telles of Porto joined Uruguayan duo Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellestri in making moves to the Manchester club in the eleventh hour.

United also signed wonderkid, Amad Traore but the youngster will move in January due to work permit issues.

Manchester United has now announced the shirt numbers for the new players with Cavani being the most talked about after taking on the number 7 shirt.

The announcement of Cavani’s shirt number received widespread disappointment from Manchester United’s fans with majority expecting long-term target, Jadon Sancho to take up the shirt.

Cavani has however taken the challenge of a shirt that has been a curse since Portuguese, Cristiano Ronaldo left it in 2009.

Since then several players have worn it but have only produced a combined 34 goals in over 200 games.

Cavani, at the age of 33 will dorn the shirt for the Mancunian giants this season and United’s fans will hope the shirt is more of a blessing than a curse.

Other Manchester United signings, Brazilian Alex Telles has received the number 27 shirt. The left back joins the club after a hugely successful spell at Porto.

Uruguayan winger, Facundo Pellestri will have the number 28 shirt at his back when he pulls on the famous red shirt.

Donny Van De Beek already wears the number 34 shirt in a tribute to childhood friend, Abdelhak Nouri who suffered permanent brain damage during a friendly game.

Manchester United chased Jadon Sancho all summer with the No. 7 shirt left vacant for him but were left frustrated after Borussia Dortmund refused to bulge on their asking price.
