Merseyside club, Liverpool have handed rivals Manchester United the chance to leapfrog them into first position after stuttering in the title race with a disappointing loss against Southampton.
Danny Ings came back to bite the hands that used to feed him with a superb finish in the 2nd minute against his former club. The lone goal was enough to hand Southampton all three points as they dealt a huge blow to Liverpool’s title chances with Manchester United lurking.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came close to restoring parity in the 12th minute, but skipper, Jordan Henderson could only fire over.
Liverpool are now level on point with Manchester United in the title race with the latter still yet to play.
The champions kept on mounting pressure and six minutes later, Sadio Mane’s beautiful flick found Mohammed Salah, but Frasier Forster was quick off his line to deny the visitors. The Egyptian was unable to hit the back of the net moments before half-time as Senegalese, Mane found him with a cross, but Salah’s header was off target. Although the Merseyside kept pressing with several attempts, notably from Firmino, Southampton stood firm to deny the reigning champions.
If Manchester United wins their game in hand, they will go first on the table. This is the closest the club have been to a league title since their record-breaking 20th English League win in May 2013 as legendary boss, Sir Alex Ferguson bode farewell.
