Nigerian footballer, Alex Iwobi has recently opened up on the shocking events that led to fans’ attack on the Super Eagles camp.
Gernot Rohr’s men were forced to a 4-4 draw in the 2022 African Nations Cup Qualifiers against Sierra Leone’s Leone Stars despite being 4-nill up. The visitors earned a draw after conceding four goals early on in the game. The result understandably left Nigerians disappointed that the team could not see off such a huge advantage, but some fans took it too far by attacking the players.
Alex Iwobi, who played one of his best games for the country in the match, has revealed that Nigerian fans attacked the team bus by throwing stones which broke a window and hit one of the Super Eagles players.
Speaking with Everton’s official website, Iwobi described how angry the fans were with the players after the clash with Sierra Leone.
“I can’t even tell you what happened in the game, I don’t know, it was mad. “There was a lot of heated discussion in the changing room, the Nigerian Football President came in and said a few words, he was hurt, like all of us. “Trying to go back to the hotel, people were throwing stones at our bus, one cracked a window and hit a player. It was crazy.”
Alex Iwobi, away from the Super Eagles camp has also been in good form so far this season as he tries to force his way into Italian boss, Carlo Ancelotti’s plans. Everton currently occupies 7th position on the log with 29 points from 16 games.
