Police Assault Journalist, Disperse Abuja #EndSARS Protesters

Police officers in Abuja allegedly assaulted #EndSARS protesters including a female journalist on Monday.

There are still cases of police brutality across Nigeria despite the directives by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu warning police officers against assaulting peaceful protesters.

The police officers dispersed the protesters around the busy Keffi-Abuja Expressway around the Karu axis in the suburb of the nation’s capital.

Video trending on social media showed the police officers chasing and assaulting protesters with horsewhips as they scampered to safety.

The police officers also allegedly assaulted a female journalist.

Meanwhile, several groups have warned the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), against using military force to disperse #EndSARS protesters.

They issued the warning after the Nigerian Army said it would begin Operation Crocodile Smile to combat cyber warfare and insurgency.

Nigerians interpreted the operation as a veiled move to scatter youths who were demanding an end to police brutality in the country.

However, the Nigerian Army released a separate statement claiming that Exercise Crocodile Smile had nothing to do with #EndSARS protests.

“The army hereby enjoins all law-abiding Nigerians to go about their lawful activities unhindered as the Exercise has nothing to do with #ENDSARS protest, but a yearly event set out by the NA in its efforts to ensuring safety and security of Nigeria and her citizens.”
