However, the ignorant fisherman and his village people were unaware of the fish’s financial value and instead ate it. Little did fisherman, Sir Gilbert Claude Otuene know he had eaten the wealth of generations to come.
With an estimated worth of $2.6 million, which is over a billion Naira, Otuene would certainly have thought twice before eating.

The fish was initially referred to as Swordfish by villagers because of the close resemblance between both creatures.
Although it is unlikely they would have acted differently should they have known it was not a Swordfish due to the fact no one knew the financial value of this rare animal.
The Blue Marlin fish is one of the fastest fishes on earth and one of the top sporting fishes in the world. A Blue Marlin fish is valued at about $31,000 per pound which is about N14.5 million.
