The GoFundMe page which had been set up to raise money to offset the legal cost of Nollywood actor Omiyinka Olanrewaju popularly known as Baba Ijesha has been taken down. The actor who had been charged for indecent treatment of a minor, defilement of a child, attempted sexual assault by Penetration, sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault after his arrest and detention since April 22, 2021 was granted bail on the 22nd of June 2021, while his trial was adjourned to July 27, 2021.
One of the embattled actor’s supporters, Oladele Matti who is based in Ireland set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money for the legal costs of Baba Ijesha’s case in court. This move by Oladele Matti caused an outrage online with many social media users questioning why the actor should be given such assistance.
A correspondence of Goldmyne Tv who visited the website on Monday 12th July 2021 observed that the GoFundMe page set up for the Nollywood actor could not be found.
The fundraiser, which had a target of €50,000, (over N20m) was titled:
“Help Olanrewaju Omiyinka with Legal Costs,” didn’t sit well with a lot of social media users as many took to their Facebook pages to condemn this act.
Some of the comments reads:
“This is a fraudulent act and must be condemned. Oladele Matti who resides in Dublin, Ireland, should know the implication of the charges leveled against Baba Ijesha. I think he has ulterior motives and personal interests in the GoFundMe proceeds! This is absolutely a misplaced priority.”
Another user Jessica Mogbo, said,
“See some people supporting this act. How many sick actors or actresses have they raised funds for? Misplaced priorities.”
